Garden Party: Seven Day Makeover

Felt like burning some calories and cleaning up the old vegetable garden.

Day One

Garden in need of attention.

All the planting beds looked like this.

Weeding done. Soil in need of water and tilling. It has only been fallow since January, signs of a dry year.

Waiting for fertilizer.

Fertilizer added, drip system operational.

All mowed. Dad zoomed the tractor around while my back was turned.

This one will be for flowers.

Marlowe with the stick he kept dropping in the planter boxes so I would throw it for him.

End of Day One. A good day’s work.

Day Two

Transplanted melon plants.

Picked up some strawberries at the flower shop.

These should be interesting. The package says it is a winter squash.

Flowers still unplanted. I want more.

Day Three

More spending, less calorie burning.

The Seed Bank!

The Seed Bank!

SeedBank2

It has been here for years but I’ve never been inside.

Bunch o' seeds and free pack with purchase. I chose flowers because I'm a masochist.

Day Four

In for an inch... Tilled last few planters & set up trellis for peas.

Netting to defend against birds. Hope I'm not too late!

Day Five

Just under 90 today. Did some digging in planters and shoveling of manure.

Last three planters. lettuce, peas, and one still vacant. It may be empty but it has drip hoses and netting all ready to go.

These transplanted melons do not look happy. Maybe they feel insecure next to those big loud zinnias?

Apparently I do not understand petunias at all. Why can't I find big white zinnias?

Bright color illusions I recall, I really don’t know petunias at all. Those are some sad flowers. Why can’t I find big white zinnias?

Day Six

Over 100 today. Not much to do in the vegetable garden, so I spent most of the day scurrying from shadows to cool places. Got some black petunias planted, bought more flowers for another spot that needs color. Will I have to use them to replace the sad white petunias?

Very happy black petunias. They don't really brighten anything up but I thought they were cool. If only the white ones were doing so well!

I found this succulent growing in my melon patch. I thought it was interesting so I transplanted it to the flower bed. It will probably overwhelm everything.

Day Seven

Looks like it’s time to just wait.

Melons seem to be bouncing back. And I don't care if zinnias attract bees. They are awesome!

Why don't birds eat weed seeds? These are way too early to be anything else.
